Debbie Martinez

Executive Director & Founder of SOAR

Recognizing the immense struggles that teenagers face, Debbie Martinez is on a mission to provide a safe and empowering space for adolescents to build self-confidence, find their voice, and embrace their authentic selves. With over 25 years of experience in the entertainment industry as a producer and performing arts educator, Debbie developed a renowned performing arts program that went beyond traditional theater education. Her program focused on nurturing well-rounded and emotionally intelligent young individuals who went on to make a positive impact in the world. While many of her students have found success in the arts, others have ventured into various fields, such as journalism, therapy, education, law, business, and more, becoming exemplars of excellence.

In recent years, Debbie has shifted her focus to emotional intelligence education, completing comprehensive courses with prestigious institutes and coaching and facilitating workshops for both adults and teens. Recognizing the transformational impact of emotional intelligence, she believes it is essential for managing stress, effective communication, empathy, and conflict resolution.

The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the challenges faced by young people, prompting Debbie to adapt her passion for creating safe spaces to the current circumstances. Her dedication to inspiring young individuals to reduce stress and anxiety, pursue their passions, and discover their voices remains unwavering. Debbie feels privileged to be part of young people's journeys, guiding them towards their own power and helping them navigate the complexities of social life. Through active listening, laughter, and purposeful strategies, she aims to instill courage and purpose in adolescents as they embark on their unique paths. Connecting with teens is not just a profession for Debbie—it is her true passion and life's work.

In 1998, Debbie Martinez was given the opportunity to create and run a performing arts education program at The Norris Center for Performing Arts in Palos Verdes, CA. The program was dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing place for children to grow into strong, confident adults.

The documentary, The Negri: A Dream Realized, was created to celebrate the program’s 10th anniversary. It is a look into Debbie’s philosophy of arts education and the community she impacted. This same philosophy is incorporated into SOAR. Creating community and engagement in a creative and fun environment, while tackling the challenging and critical issues that youth are struggling with today, is SOAR’S primary vision and goal.
